Limited edition Van

Please note that at the end of January 2018, this item sold out. The society is now planning for its next release.

About John May

The May family had been doyens of the small Hampshire Town of Basingstoke (pop 4,000) since the 1500's. From 1750 their brewing business flourished, supported by grain supplied from their local Glebe and Deep Lane farms. John May was born in 1860. He was Mayor of Basingstoke six times from 1888, like his father and great uncle (eleven times), and established a local Army volunteer unit. The brewery was initially in Brook Street (a brewery needs ample water supply of course!), and later in Chapel Street, adjacent to the LSWR Goods Yard.
